USDA APHIS Logo

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture responsible for protecting animal health, animal welfare, and plant health. USDA-APHIS oversees the ARK Equine Import Quarantine and Export operations. The ARK works together with the USDA-APHIS to maintain a bio-secure environment and ensure all animals are handled in a safe and humane manner.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the national public health agency of the United States. It is a United States federal agency, under the Department of Health and Human Services. The CDC, amongst other responsibilities, controls the importation of dogs from other countries in order to prevent the spread of zoonotic disease such as rabies.

United States Customs and Border Protection is the largest federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, and is the country’s primary border control organization. CBP regulates all international imports, including pets. All animals must be imported according to CBP and CDC regulations to prevent delay upon arrival.

The Transportation Security Administration is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that has authority over the security of the traveling public in the United States. The ARK is registered with the TSA as a Certified Cargo Screening Facility.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is an agency of the United States Federal Government within the United States Department of the Interior dedicated to the management of fish, wildlife, and natural habitats. USFWS utilizes The ARK at JFK for scheduled inspections, or in any time of need where an animal may need a safe place to stay.

IPATA is a non-profit trade association of independent members who are dedicated to the safe and humane transport of family pets and other animals. Founded in 1979, IPATA provides an international network with over 400 members in more than 80 countries. Members consist of veterinarians, boarding & quarantine facilities, freight forwarders/customs brokers, airlines, ground transporters, suppliers to the pet shipping industry.

Animal Transportation Association (ATA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the safe and humane transportation of animals worldwide. The organization advocates for uniform and effective international regulations for the humane handling of live animals, and involves members in finding solutions to a variety of problems related to the transport of animals.
